5 Reasons NOT To Get The Apple Watch Ultra
I fancy myself a somewhat of an Apple Watch expert. I have owned every version since the beginning. I have had Stainless Steel, Ceramic, Aluminum, With Cellular and without, more bands than I care to admit and after all that. I was just blown away with the Apple Watch Ultra when it was first released last year.
After months of use and the novelty of the device wearing off, I want to give you 5 reasons why you should NOT buy the Apple Watch Ultra and buy the Series 8 instead. These are in no particular order of importance.
- Price… The Ultra only comes one way. It is $799 period. There are no options for upgrading or downgrading the watch. The Series 8 starts at $429 for the 45mm version. The 41mm version starts at $399 but I am going to stick with the 45 mm since it is more than likely the choice of people deciding between the Series 8 and the Ultra.
That is $360 difference! That is HUGE! If you want the cellular version it is $529 still a $260 dollar difference. I just don’t see where they make up that $360/$260 gap. - Battery Life…I am getting about 2 1/2 days on the Ultra and about 1 1/2 days with the Series 8. How much money is it worth for that extra day? I still take it off at night and put it on the charger. I begin each day at 100% and end the day with about 60% on the Ultra and 35% on the Series 8. In reality, it makes absolutley no difference whatsoever. It easily lasts the longest of days. So why pay more?
- Screen Brightness… The Ultra maxes out at 2000 nits of brightness and the Series 8 only half of that at 1000 nits. Sounds like a big deal, but in my years of wearing the Apple Watch, I can not remember a single time that I had trouble seeing it in the sun. Another non-factor for me.
- Overall toughness. The Ultra is marketed towards those special crazy people doing all those incredibly impressive events. That will never be me and I am comfortable saying it will never be you either! I have never broken an Apple Watch in all my years of wearing one. I have put some scratches in most of them at some point, but that just adds character for me. The Apple Watch is not an heirloom piece that needs to be babied. Just use it and abuse it and in a few years, get…
